If the registry still holds details of the "LocalPackage" or still has entries such as "NoModify" or "NoRepair" under this key, then these factors could be hindering the process. Now I'm out $50 for new software that I can't use. I also tried to reinstall after a "clean" boot, that also didn't work. I did remove a couple of Registry keys, but that didn't help. It involves removing Registry strings, which I couldn't do, because they weren't there. Symantec's web site does mention these issues, and they give instructions for manually removing the program. I can't uninstall it, because the uninstall program is gone, and NAV doesn't appear in Windows Control Panel's list of programs that can be uninstalled. I tried to reinstall NAV 2004, but halfway through the installation, it quits with an error message "Norton Antivirus 2004 installation has failed". This happened after I started the computer, and got a blue screen saying the registry was being replaced with the last known good copy of the registry. I bought Norton AntiVirus 2004 and successfully installed it on a Win 98SE machine.
